Rotaract Club of Klang’s Charter Night, 14 June 2008

It was a privilege for me to photograph the Rotaract Club of Klang’s Charter Night on 14th June at KEC Club, Klang. The theme for the night was ‘Masquerade’ and the hall was a buzz with teen spirit and balloons. Varied entertainment from dance performancess to rap songs kept the guests entertained and on their feet. Raffles tickets were sold to raise funds for the club and a handphone auction was even held .

Rotaract Club is part of the Rotary Club and their main aim comprises of assisting the needy and the underprivileged in the community. To join the Rotaract Club you need to be between 18 to 30 years of age. Its great to have a Rotaract Club in Klang at last. All the best to you, President Kugan and your team !

Inner Wheel Installation Night, 8 June 2008

It has been a while since I had attended or photographed a Rotary function in Klang so it was great to meet up some of the Rotarians again. The Inner Wheel Club (IWC) is an organisation comprising of Rotarian’s wifes, established to help single mothers or the underprivileged.

The newly elected IWC president, Ms Shamini Selvaraja introduced the theme for the year ‘Realise Your Vision and Make a Difference’. The 9th Installation Night was held at the Klang Executive Club with the incoming district chairman Illah Ragunathan & PP Ragunathan as the guest of honour.

The event was well organised and even had a ‘Bollywood’ theme. Guests were given beautiful bangles as door gifts. Raffles tickets were sold thoughout the night to raise funds while the guests were entertained with dance routines and a medley of songs.

V. Aweenash’s Baby Naming Ceremony, 7 June 2008

There’s nothing like the scent of a freshly cleaned baby…. It makes me want to squeeze his/her cheeks. Well that’s how I felt anyway during my nephew’s baby naming ceremony held last Saturday in Kapar, Klang.

Being the official photographer, I was incharge of capturing the evening. Baby Aweenaash was such a charming little tot and I’ve captured some of his many moods during the evening. I loved looking at his tiny and dainty feet, it made me feel like a giant indeed )

Aweenash was quiet mostly and slept like a baby despite the “buzz” around him. The decoration at my aunt’s house was beautiful and the dinner ended with a sweet pudding being served to guests. In Malaysia, the ‘baby naming ceremony’ is an event usually celebrated by the Indian community where close family and friends are officially introduced to the baby, this is usually held when the baby is a month old. There are many different rituals performed, some get their baby blessed in the temple while others get the baby’s horoscope read. Some parents are also known to place the baby in a ‘baby cot’ for the first time on this day.

Karunagaran & Sunita’s Wedding Dinner, 1 June 2008

Here are some photos taken during Karu & Sunita’s wedding dinner held at the Klang Executive Club on 1 June 2008. Some of you may remember the couple from an earlier engagement session I did sometime in March this year.

The wedding dinnner was a splendid affair with close family and friends having the time of their life. Food was great and so was the entertainment. The party ended with everyone jammin’ onto the dance floor which is always a great sign even though the next day was a working day !

Karu & Suni – I’ve had a great time working with the both of you and here’s wishing you wedded bliss forever!

Baking class, 19 May 2008

One of my best friend, Renu runs a baking company called Cakes, Cakes and More … and she recently conducted a baking class at her home for a number of students. For this lesson she taught them to make an eggless sooji cake, chocolate cupcakes with chocolate ganache topping and orange sponge cake with butter icing. The cakes were definitely yummy indeed and here are some of the shots taken that day.

Bachelorette Party, 26 April 2008

According to wiki, a ‘Bachelorette Party’ or ‘Hen night’ is a party held for a bachelorette shortly before she enters into wedded bliss. Its also her final opportunity to engage in activities a new husband might not approve of, or merely to spend time bonding with her female friends.

This was my first experience attending such an event and I totally had a blast, the bride to be was Sunita and 10 of her best buddies came together from near and far to make her Hen’s night an unforgettable one !

With precession organisational skills from the 3 committee members – Asha, Nisha and Rekha; the night went about without a hitch. The theme was ‘school girls’, so everyone came dressed in white shirts, black skirts and tie. Little cute pink hairbands were also handed out to everyone while Sunita had to wear a little red devil horn-band and a sash. Games were played and little toys were sold by the bride-to-be along Heritage Row to raise funds for the night.

Sunita, thanks for making me apart of your wonderful day, I had so much fun and good luck for the wedding !

Makna (Part 1), 16 April 2008

I recently voluntered to assist Majlis Kanser National (MAKNA) to photograph some of their cancer patients for their Annual Report. Being an NGO, MAKNA’s main attributes are to help create awareness about cancer and support the cancer patients, nevertheless MAKNA’s members are also very active in their outreach programs.

Together with Shaz, Nurina and Sam we headed to Sg. Tekali in Ulu Langat (via Bukit Belacan) to photograph En. Megat who is a cancer patient and co-incidently the President of the Brain Cancer Society in Malaysia. Sg Tekali is really beautiful and a breath of fresh air, this sub-urban (kampung-style) environment has lots of greenery growing around it especially durian trees.

We then continued to Taman Semenyih in Semenyih to photograph Lee Leok Min and Kamala who are also cancer patients. As we were heading to Semenyih, we caught a glimpse of the Semenyih Dam… which was breathtaking. It was my first time in the area and I was in awe !

When we were leaving, we were surprised to find the periwinkle flower (bunga kemuning Cina), which is part of MAKNA’s logo growing in Kamala’s house. Studies by medical experts have found that extracts from this flower can cure Cancer.

Besides doing event, corporate and wedding photography, I am also very passionate about taking photographs for charitable causes, an issue which is close to my heart.

I was invited by eHomemakers last year to photograph women from Salaam Wanita an organisation which empowers and helps disadvantaged women by teaching them to weave handcrafted baskets from recycled magazines.

The photos were shot in Ipoh, a state located north of Malaysia where I met up with 3 families to capture their daily routines. These women who lead a meagre life are able to improve their lifestyle and self-worth by selling the baskets.

My photographs were submitted together with a paper written by eHomemakers to UNDP in Sri Lanka and this particular photo won the 3rd prize.

Karunagaran & Sunita’s Engagement, 20 March 2008

This is the second time I am photographing Karu & Sunita, the first was for their registration ceremony. This time around I photographed their engagement which took place at Sunita’s House in Klang.

The couple were lucky as the sky was really gloomy, but it didn’t rain at all. The engagement ceremony went on well with abundant trays of gifts from Karu’s family. Well wishers came happily to get their group shots and the vegetarian food which was catered from ‘Bunga Raya Caterers’ was delish !

The night ended with cake cutting by the couple and family hitting the dance floor ! Congrats again Karu & Sunita…. ‘auf Wiedersehen’ till we meet again for your wedding.
